Coping with COVID-19: Humor Overcomes

How MySalesButler Helped One Client Get Her Message Out About Changes Because of COVID-19

MySalesButler works closely with our clients through good times and bad. The coronavirus known as COVID-19 has thrown many of us for a curve. The service industry, in particular, has been hard hit.

We’d like to share an example of how we worked with one client as she faced uncertainty from the virus’s fallout.

The Blue Plate restaurant is located in Avon, Colorado, a few miles from Vail ski resort. When Vail decided on March 15 to suspend operations at all of its North American properties due to COVID-19, it threw local businesses into disarray. The Blue Plate, like others, gets a significant portion of its income from skiers.

So, owner Elli Roustom decided to get creative. And tap into her natural sense of humor. She knew that one way to cope with the uncertainty around the virus and the necessity for people to maintain some social distance from each other was to approach it with a little bit of wit.

First, Elli announced some changes at the restaurant. They would remain open with limited hours and offer delivery and curbside pickup of their food. The dining room would also stay open, with increased sanitary measures. Then she thought: how to bring people in?

Toilet Paper

TP had quickly become a hot commodity in the COVID-19 outbreak because of hoarding.

Elli put together a video for Blue Plate’s Facebook page over the weekend, announcing that dining room customers would get a roll of toilet paper with their order. She’d even throw in another roll if they mentioned the video.

But she needed more power behind the message of Blue Plate’s curbside and delivery service. She called MySalesButler first thing Monday morning with a request to add delivery and pick-up service to her website. We quickly added the details to the site and began crafting a Facebook ad.

But Elli wasn’t done. She wanted to illustrate the curbside service angle using some of her typical humor. In the middle of the spread of COVID-19, she knew people could use a laugh.

We collaborated with Elli to create a second Facebook ad featuring a video with her laying nonchalantly on the curb, smiling and holding up a sack of Blue Plate’s finest food.

Elli responded to a tough situation with humor. And MySalesButler acted quickly to get her message out to Blue Plate’s customers. A message that said, despite uncertain times, the restaurant is still feeding people.

It’s this level of service and support that MySalesButler offers all of its clients. Even in trying times. We’re nimble enough to respond quickly. And creative enough to meet the humor of our clients.

Elli Roustom has an inimitable and funny style. MySalesButler helped her convey her important message while staying true to her personality.

It’s an example of how we support our valued clients. No matter what the future holds.

What can we do for you?

Addendum: Late Monday, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed an executive order temporarily closing all dining rooms in the state. But Elli continues to make sure her customers are fed by delivery and curbside service. But her sense of humor is still intact. What will she come up with next?
