Everyday we run into people trying to protect passwords using LastPass and other platforms. Well now the mobile versions on LastPass.com are free. Everything seems to have moved to the web and we need to protect ourselves from hackers and our own laziness. This tool lets you do that we recommend it to all of our customers with great success.
You can imagine what it must be like for a company like ours who maintains 1000’s of internet assets and the need for organization, protection and encryption.
Well now it’s all free. We need professional versions, but most people can get by quite nicely I might add with the free version.
Starting today, LastPass will no longer charge extra to access your password vault from different types of devices. That means free users can now access their password vaults from their phone and their desktop at no extra cost. Previously, you’d need a $12/year premium subscription to access your LastPass passwords from two different types of devices, like the iPhone app and the Chrome extension. Now, that’s included in the free tier.
Let’s just break it down, shall we? Your password of 12345 or PA$$WORD, or your son’s birthday is just too easy for any normal, off the shelf computer to scrape, try and try again until it gets in. You NEED encryption and you need a password like this, <&XV8x6MbWZmT.7sqF6>. Then you need THAT password encrypted.
Lastpass.com allows you to have ONE, yes that’s right only, one master password, (don’t forget it and make it a long, complicated one kids! :). It will generate passwords for you, save them and furthermore encrypt them.
So to protect your website, your bank accounts, your private notes, your credit card numbers, LastPass.com makes it easy with their browser plugins/extensions that notice when you are logging in and using a username and password. It then asks you to either save them or edit them. We always suggest the first time it saves to remove all the extraneous info and just use the root domain, as in “wsj.com” and not “http://www.wsj.com/amp/articles/chicago-cubs-win-the-world-series-ending-108-year-drought-1478149589”. Then no matter what page you are on, you can login and LastPass will recognize that domain.
Take the time, learn this amazing tool and protect yourself. Who knows the next time we will say, “the British are coming, the British are coming…and they hacked my bank account! Now….is it Tea?”
